Elementary Music at Lincoln and Reagan -
In the 2nd and 3rd grade at Lincoln Elementary, students learn many wonderful music skills. They gain an introduction to the concepts of ear training, basic music theory, music literacy and music appreciation. Students learn how to sing solfege and practice songs, dances and rhythm. Lincoln students also learn their way around a piano keyboard and the musical alphabet/music scales. When Lincoln students finish here, they have enough musical understanding to read simple music, play a variety of percussion instruments and sing with correct vocal technique.
In the 4th grade at Reagan Elementary, students are introduced to playing the beginning instrument of the recorder. This allows them to gain the experience and understanding needed to pursue band studies in the 5th and 6th grade and learn proper finger positioning, breathing, and more advanced rhythmical and musical passages.
Musical practice, discipline, the joy and appreciation for the performing arts, gaining the experience and skills for performing and musical presentation are all a part of the introductory music education for the Kingsburg Elementary student.
